Family-centered care (FCC) is an approach that recognizes the vital role of families in the healthcare and recovery of hospitalized children (WHO, 2024). It emphasizes collaboration between healthcare providers, patients, and families to ensure holistic treatment and improved health outcomes (Adegbite & Akinwunmi, 2023).
In Nigeria, hospitals are gradually integrating FCC models, but challenges such as healthcare provider resistance, inadequate hospital infrastructure, and cultural beliefs often hinder its full implementation (Ogunleye & Danjuma, 2024). Research has shown that FCC improves patient satisfaction, reduces hospitalization duration, and enhances emotional well-being (Bello et al., 2023).
This study examines the impact of FCC on the recovery of hospitalized children in Sokoto State University Teaching Hospital.
Despite the benefits of FCC, its adoption in Nigerian healthcare settings remains inconsistent due to resistance from healthcare workers, lack of training, and resource constraints (Muhammad & Olatunde, 2023). There is limited research on how FCC affects pediatric recovery rates in Sokoto State, making it necessary to evaluate its effectiveness.
This study seeks to determine the impact of FCC on hospitalized children's recovery and recommend strategies for enhancing its implementation.
